Tour Our Property

When you stay at the Notch, you get more than just a room. All guests have access to our gardens, fire pits, and grounds, fully equipped kitchens, fridges, food storage, living room, dining room, library, and WIFI. We provide free coffee, tea, sheets, blankets, pillows, bath towels, showers, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lockers. So grab your toothbrush and come on over! Please take a look at our policies prior to booking for info about dogs, minors, groups, cancellations, and more!

Common Areas

The most unique aspect of the Notch Hostel is our common areas, both inside and outside the building. From our cozy living room and guest kitchen to our firepits and four decks, you’ll have no shortage of places to post up with your map, dinner, or a new friend.

Crawford Room

Deluxe private room with en suite bathroom, cozy living room, private deck with lovely view of the backyard and gardens. Queen bed, full-size futon. Smart TV has Netflix. Second floor.

Priced for double occupancy. Max occupancy four adults; see booking page for additional persons pricing. No dogs. Usually minimum two-night stay on weekends and on peak summer weekdays. Apologies—insurance policy does not allow for guest use of the wood stove.

Note: There are two futons in this room, but one of them is a small love seat, only big enough for a small child to sleep on. The other is a full-size futon, suitable for one person or a couple.

Carter Room

Private, sleeps two people. Double bed. Second floor. You can hear Moosilauke Brook babbling (and sometimes rushing!) from across the street. Usually minimum two-night stay on weekends. Dog-friendly room, see dog policy here.

Bear Notch Cabin

Bear Notch Cabin is our newest private accommodation. This fully insulated, heated and air-conditioned cabin has a bunk bed for two, mini-fridge, microwave, secretary’s desk, private entrance, and a small deck. Cabin guests have access to the entire hostel as part of their stay; shared bathroom and kitchen facilities are a few yards away in the main building (the cabin does not have a private bathroom or kitchen). This space features a stained-glass mural of Bear Notch, a scenic notch located in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. The mural was hand-painted by artist and Notch hamily member Kelly Bryant.

The Tiny House

Booked through summer 2026. Stay tuned for next availability!

Stay in the renowned “Grid House.” Our custom-built tiny house is the winter home of White Mountains Hiking legend Philip Carcia who has completed such local hiking feats as the Single Year Grid, the Single Season White Mountain Guide, and most recently the fastest known time for the Winter NH-48.

Recover from or dream about YOUR next big adventure in this cozy accommodation that includes a kitchenette with microwave, hotplate, and foot-pump-powered sink; a fold-out work/dining table, a first-floor couch (converts to a twin bed), and a loft with a queen-size bed (ladder access). Located in our large backyard, the tiny house is a 30-second walk from the main house, where you’ll have access to shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. Fire pits and gardens are close by. 

No dogs, two person maximum.

Dormitories

Our four dormitories sleep between 5 and 8 people. The Pinkham Room is dog friendly; see dog policy here.

The Tool Shed

Carrigain Cabin is a converted tool shed next to the hostel that can sleep two people. You will have full access to the hostel as part of your stay. The cabin is 100% waterproof, has electricity, outlets, and wifi, and offers a unique lodging experience. There are two mattresses in the loft sleeping area. The cabin is not insulated, heated, or air-conditioned, and is equipped with fans. Bring your own sleeping bag and pillow for this accommodation. The cabin is dog friendly; see dog policy here. *Please note, the sleeping area and mattresses are in the loft, which most dogs cannot access due to the ladder climb. Some guests opt to sleep on the ground floor with their dogs. The cabin does not have fridge access if the main hostel is full. Please bring a cooler for your perishables!*

The Perch

The Perch is our glamping tent in the backyard, perfect for one or two people to sleep outside without having to set up a tent or sacrifice the comfort of a real mattress. This canvas tent is “perched” on a tent platform to keep you totally dry. Inside are two twin mattresses on bed frames with pillows. Just bring a sleeping bag — that’s all you need! The Perch guests have full access to the hostel amenities and interior spaces. *Please note: The Perch does not have fridge access if the main hostel is full. Please bring a cooler for your perishables!*

Want to sleep outside while still enjoying the comforts of a warm shower, living room, kitchens, and climate control? Try tenting in our backyard! We do not have designated campsites, rather, you can choose whatever patch of grass you like in our two yard areas. Hang out by the communal fire pit or use one of the smaller firepits or tables sprinkled around the property. Bring your own tent, sleeping equipment, towels, and camping chairs. Tenting is located in our backyard. You have full access to the hostel as part of your stay! *Please note: there is no fridge access for tenters when the hostel is full. Please bring a cooler!*

Just need a shower?

We offer showers to non-guests as long as it’s outside of our busiest times of the day/week. Text us on the day of or day before to make sure it’s a good time! Showers cost $8 including towel, shampoo, conditioner, and soap.
