The House of Grid: A Tiny House
The Tiny House, known as the House of Grid, was custom-built from scratch by the Notch Hostel’s co-founder, Justin Walsh. This unique accommodation at the Notch Hostel is tucked away in our backyard, and is the house that our employee Philip Carcia lived in while he famously completed the Fastest-Known-Time for the Single Year Grid in 2018-19 (@FindingPhilip, FindingPhilip.com). From chandeliers to a queen-size bed, this is the ultimate lodging option for White Mountain adventurers. You’ll get full access to the hostel kitchens, common areas, bathrooms and showers as part of your stay. Additionally, a Coleman stove is provided for outdoor cooking just outside your door (bring your own fuel), as well as a half-size fridge, a water dispenser, an AC unit, and wifi. Bathrooms and showers are a short walk from the Tiny House, located in the main hostel.
Our newest and most elegant private accommodation, the Jefferson Flat is a ground-level studio apartment with full kitchen, bathroom, and private entrance. Enjoy complete privacy while still getting all the social and community benefits of staying at the Notch. You’ll have cooking space galore — the kitchen has a full size stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, tea kettle, toaster oven, and cookware. As with all rooms at the Notch, your stay also includes 24/7 access to all hostel common areas, as well as the spacious backyard and gardens, grill, and our outdoor fire pit.

Carrigain Cabin is a converted tool shed next to the hostel that can sleep up to four people. The cabin is 100% waterproof, has electricity, outlets, and wifi, and offers a unique lodging experience. There are two mattresses in the loft sleeping area. The cabin is not insulated, heated, or air-conditioned, and is equipped with fans. Bring your own sleeping bag and pillow for this accommodation (and additional sleeping pads if bringing more than two people) .

- Carter room (small private)
- We have a large open crate and comfy dog bed that you can use if staying with your dog in the Pinkham Room. If you have a lively dog, crating him/her at bedtime may help other guests feel more comfortable sharing a room with your dog (and prevents dogs from visiting guests on other bottom bunks in the middle of the night! 🙂 ).
- Please leash your dog while in the hostel. Most of our guests so far have loved dogs, but some people are allergic or nervous around them, so we appreciate you keeping your dog by your side when in communal areas.
- No dogs on beds or furniture.
- Scoop the poop! We have a pooper scooper and bucket that you can use during your stay.
- If you leave the hostel, please bring your dog with you.
- Owners are responsible for any damage caused by their dog.
- Dogs who are unsafe or create chronic disturbance will be asked to stay outside (summer) or leave (winter).
- Please leave your dog in the car during initial check-in.
