Wildcat “A” – 2019-05-18

Destination: Wildcat “A”
Trails: Nineteen Mile Brook and Wildcat Ridge Trails
Hike Date: 2019-05-18

Conditions:
19mile was dry for the first 2 miles, then a mile or so of mud, then slippery monorail to the hut. WRT was slippery monorail the entire way to the summit. Although the trail is steep, there was little exposure in most places. Stepping carefully on existing footprints worked well.

Equipment:
Microspikes were essential on the eroding monorail. I think snowshoes would’ve been cumbersome and worse than useless. Trekking poles helped, but they “postholed” more often than I did…

Trail Maintenance:
Some duckunders. A blowdown with a herd path on each side (Saturday) was cleared by Sunday morning. Thanks!

Parking & Road Access:
24 cars overflowed the lot Saturday. A few more came later in the day, and continued parking to the north along Rte. 16

Comments:
Saw a few bugs down low on Saturday
