Presidential Traverse – 2019-05-11

Destination: Presidential Traverse
Trails: Airline
Hike Date: 2019-05-11

Conditions:
Intense day in the Presidentials with John Pike and Jimmy Nolet. Trails started out wet and bare until roughly 4,000 feet. Reasonably stable monorail most of the way. Post-holing along an unstable monorail on the Airline cutoff until Madison Hut.

Dropped packs at Madison Hut and continued up Madison. Whipping winds and icy rocks the entire way. From there, we climbed Adams, where we experienced even worse winds and more ice-covered rocks. We decided to turn back at this time after experiencing 60-80 mph winds and being pelted with tiny bits of hail.

Equipment:
Micro-spikes.
