Destination: Mount Flume
Trails: Lincoln Woods Trail, Osseo Trail
Hike Date: 2019-12-15
Mostly hard packed snow and ice on the Lincoln Woods Trail. Some of lower section of Osseo Trail bare ground, otherwise ice, hard packed snow, with fresh snow falling at times. Ladders covered in ice and some snow. Good footholds on and sometimes next to ladders.
Hillsound Trail Crampons the entire hike.
I removed some fallen branches from trail while hiking.
Parking & Road Access:
I’ve never seen the Lincoln Woods parking lot so empty.
Shortly after I reached the top of the ladders I met four Boreal Chickadees along the trail. Later I met six Boreal Chickadees about 0.15 of a mile from the summit of Flume. Each time I met the Boreal Chickadees they flew down and all around me, perching on branches next to me and checking me out. Four Black-capped Chickadees did the same earlier in the hike. Robins were at about 4000 feet chowing on Mountain Ash berries. I had a great time at the fireside chat the evening before the hike and really liked driving such a short distance to the trailhead. Usually my drive is 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Looking forward to the next fireside chat.
