Liberty and Flume – 2023-01-07

Destination: Liberty and Flume
Trails: Liberty Springs Trail/Franconia Ridge Trail
Hike Date: 2023-01-07

Conditions:
Thin snow on ice going up; as the first one on the trail that morning, I used crampons, but later in the day (and descending), spikes were sufficient b/c the ice was fairly crushed up.

Cascade Brook was flowing but easy enough to cross on rocks.

Franconia Ridge was seriously potholed; take care with foot placement there.

No views except for gray/white void.

Equipment:
Crampons useful ascending; spikes would probably have been fine if used very intentionally. Spikes were fine later in the day after more traffic had used the trail.
