Title: Garfield, Galehead, South Twin, North Twin.
Date of Hike: Saturday, January 12th 2019.
Trail Conditions: Unbroken snow, Deep drifted powder.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes.
Comments: Team of 4 followed a set of XC ski-tracks up Gale River Road and within a mile of Garfield Summit. Heavy, unbroken snow from the end of the tracks to Garfield, and then along Garfield Ridge to the intersection of the Gale River Trail. GRT appeared to be packed solid leading back down to Gale River Road and Route 3.
There was one lone snowshoer who ventured beyond the intersection, and we followed his tracks until we caught him on Galehead. More heavy, unbroken snow from Galehead Hut, up South Twin, over to North Twin, and then down to Haystack Road via North Twin Trail.
Heavy snowmobile traffic made for an easy 2.5 mile walk out to the car.
