Flume, Liberty, Lincoln, Lafayette, Garfield, South Twin, Bond, Bondcliff – 2022-05-13

Destination: Flume, Liberty, Lincoln, Lafayette, Garfield, South Twin, Bond, Bondcliff
Trails: Pemi Loop (clockwise)
Hike Date: 2022-05-13

Conditions:
Dry trail below 3000’ and on bare rocky faces in the alpine. Otherwise rotten unstable monorail/snowpack/ice. Many miles of postholing. Some difficult water crossings, minor blowdown.

Equipment:
Microspikes were a must. Snowshoes may have been helpful but didn’t want to carry the extra weight for the Pemi loop in-a-day push. Sawyer mini to fill up on water after Garfield. Many changes of socks, though feet were almost immediately wet again.

Trail Maintenance:
Nothing major, some minor blowdowns.

Parking & Road Access:
Few cars in the morning, more in the evening. Plenty of parking, no sign of break ins.

Comments:
Not particularly buggy yet, the bugs that were out weren’t biting. The spring trail conditions were not great. I anticipated a 14 or 15 hour day, but a solid 17 or 18 miles were extremely slow going due to the unrelenting rotten snow postholing, and it ended up being a 19 hour excursion. Still, the Pemi loop is absolutely incredible!!! Will have to come back in another season for a longer trip.
